Modutherm launches new CPD: “Incorporating heat pumps into low temperature heat networks”

Commercial heating specialist Modutherm has launched a new CIBSE-approved CPD: “Incorporating heat pumps into low temperature heat networks (LTHN)”. The new seminar focusses on the important aspects of successfully integrating and optimising heat pump performance without compromising the reliability and efficiency of the heat network, plus how terminal unit matching is a key aspect in a successful system.

The CPD seminar provides an overview of the historic development and evolution of heat networks from the early 1930s to present day. It outlines how flow temperatures have reduced as system design and the available heat sources have evolved over time, as well as looking at the current regulations and documentation, along with the upcoming heat network zoning regulations scheduled for 2024. The presentation also highlights how heat networks can be made more efficient and how to successfully integrate heat pumps into the energy supply. In addition, there are details on the extra efficiency, performance and reliability gains to be had from smart, heat pump-ready HIUs.

The presentation showcases different designs for heat pump-only and heat pump-led hybrid systems, as well as how to overcome different delta T requirements. Thermal store sizing is also addressed, plus there is an explanation as to how the vessel effects the relationship between energy demand and energy output.

Commenting on the CPD, Alex Bradley, Commercial Director at Modutherm, said: “The take-up of heat pumps is increasing, especially as the country looks to decarbonise its heating systems. As a result, specifiers and contractors need to know how to integrate heat pumps into heat networks effectively, without compromising reliability or comfort for end users. We’ve introduced this CPD to help address this issue, as well as explain other key points, including the relationships between heat pumps and HIUs. By doing so, we can increase knowledge and awareness of decarbonised heat networks throughout our customer base – and indeed, the industry as a whole.”

The hour-long CPD can be delivered online or in person, either at a customers’ premises or at Modutherm’s headquarters in Essex. To sign up for a CPD session, please email modutherm@modularhg.co.uk for further details.
